Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) involves a persistent preoccupation with perceived flaws in appearance—often minor or invisible to others. Individuals may feel intensely self-conscious, sometimes believing others are noticing or judging their appearance (ideas of reference). This leads to repetitive behaviors such as mirror checking, excessive grooming, camouflaging, or avoiding social situations. The distress and compulsions significantly impair daily functioning across personal, social, or occupational domains.
